Access Cards: Access cards are physical cards that are issued to individuals to gain access to specific areas or resources within a building or premises. They typically contain embedded electronic data that is read by a card reader to authenticate the user and determine whether access should be granted. Access cards can come in different forms, including:
Proximity Cards: These cards use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to transmit data to the card reader when in proximity, usually within a few inches. They are convenient for users as there is no need to physically insert the card into the reader.
Smart Cards: Smart cards have an embedded microprocessor that can store and process data securely. They offer higher security compared to proximity cards as they can support encryption and more advanced authentication methods.
In the context of digital security, credentials refer to the information used by individuals to authenticate themselves and gain access to digital resources or accounts. Credentials typically consist of two main components:
